Schaefer: Marcos Maidana Will Walk Away With Millions

Some fans were scratching their heads when the Nevada State Athletic Commission released the purse figures that were filed for Saturday's Showtime Pay-Per-View event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Two numbers jumped - the listed purse figures for Marcos Maidana and Adrien Broner. Maidana is listed with the commission as receiving $1.5 million dollars, while Broner is getting a shade less at $1.25 million.
And of course fans were unhappy with the NSAC's released numbers - because Maidana dominated Broner last December and now faces Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the pay-per-view main event, and Broner gets what many feel is an easy fight with Carlos Molina on the undercard.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, cleared up the confusion. Maidana has certain revenue guarantees in place and he's receiving money from the international TV rights. When everything is said and done, Schaefer expects the Argentine boxer to walk away with millions of dollars.
Schaefer points out that Maidana's listed purse figure is no different from the numerous instances where Manny Pacquiao's purse figure [filed with the NSAC] is substantially lower than his actual guarantee.
"Maidana obviously has substantial pay-per-view upside, [and he will receive money from the] Argentinian TV rights. He has all of these other revenues. It's just like when Manny Pacquiao's purse [is listed with the commission] as $6 million dollars. He has Filipino TV rights, he has pay-per-view and so on, and it's the same thing here with Maidana. I really don't know what [Maidana will walk away with], because it depends on the pay-per-view [performance]. There are big incentives there, but obviously [Maidana's finally revenue number is] going to be in the millions," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
