WBA junior middleweight champion Daniel Santos (32-3, 23KOs) is sacrificing a lot for his January 3 defense against Nobuhiro Ishida (25-5-2, 7KOs). Santos will travel to the challenger's home turf of Japan for the fight. It will be the first defense for Santos since the knockout win over previously unbeaten Joachim Alcine to capture the title. Because the fight is coming up so soon, Santos is away from his family and forced to train through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.
"This is not the first time. Birthdays, Christmas time, New Years - many times I've had to pass them up to train. This is my job. There are people who work all year and I'm also working," Santos told Primera Hora. "When I think about all of my misfortunes in the past and my needs, it gives me the strength to train hard. If one doesn't win fights, there is no money to live. That alone is inspiration."
Santos has no issue with fighting the Japanese fighter in Japan. He fought all over the world and stopped Alcine before a hostile Canadian crowd.
"I am going to represent Puerto Rico by winning in Japan. I don't know anything about the Japanese fighter. It really doesn't matter to me what kind of boxer he is," Santos said.

Re: DANIEL SANTOS DEFENDERA EN JAPON:
Daniel Santos es un gran boxeador, ¿por qué no se le presta más atención? ¿es porque no resulta tan rentable como otros? o si no, no lo entiendo...
